Dear Prospective Board Members,

Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action is seeking individuals who want to support our mission of “developing and empowering youth leaders to take collective climate action through youth organizing, policy, and education initiatives that drive lasting impact” to apply to serve on our Board of Directors.

We are currently looking for two board members with a passion for empowering youth and climate advocacy. However, we are particularly excited about candidates who give or get $5,000 annually, have at least 10 years of fundraising experience and the ability to expand SVYCA’s visibility.

Board terms last for two years and can be renewed. Typically board members can expect to spend 3-5 hours/month conducting board business including board and committee meetings, participating in events, supporting student action teams and supporting fundraising.

Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action has an annual budget of $~500,000. It employs 3 full-time employees and oversees 15 Student Action Teams with over 175 students across the Bay Area.

Board Member Roles
Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action is an organization where Board Members focus primarily on strategic leadership while maintaining meaningful connections to our grassroots work. As a Board Member, your most valuable contribution comes through high-level governance and oversight, complemented by structured engagement with our community and programs.

Our Board Members typically commit about 3-5 hours per month, divided between governance responsibilities and direct engagement opportunities. While staff handle most operational tasks, your participation in carefully selected programs and events strengthens your ability to provide strategic guidance, support fundraising, and maintain strong community connections.

Recruitment Process
To express interest in joining our Board of Directors, kindly fill out this application form. Prospective board member finalists will be invited to attend a board meeting and ask questions and be asked questions. From there you may be formally invited to join the board. If you accept, you will be invited to attend the next board meeting as a board member.
